Parkade Cinemas and Entertainment: Catch a Flick in a Historic Space, Not Far From Broadleaf Apartments

Describing as having an "80's vibe" by one Yelp reviewer, Parkade Cinemas and Entertainment isn't exactly a cutting-edge megaplex—but that's exactly what gives it a "certain charm," says another. In fact, regular patrons seem to appreciate the old-school atmosphere across the board. After all, it comes with cheap prices for everyone and a long local history.

Before it was Parkade Cinemas, this little theater was called UA Theatre East. It debuted in 1966 with a single screen for showing movies, but five more were added over time. It traded hands once before closing in 2001 and sitting vacant for a few years. That changed in 2006 when the current owners revitalized this dying theater and reopened it as Parkade Cinemas. Today, the independent cinema not only shows current flicks, but also hosts live performers. Magicians, stand-up comics, and even hypnotists have all graced the stage at Parkade. It all awaits just a short drive from Broadleaf Apartments.
